OkCupid-Profiltext Mai 2011 bis Januar 2012:
My self-summary
Just (2011-05-12) emptied my whole profile, as I seem to do once every year. Trying to think up something new ... (My previous answers can be found here: http://www.plomlompom.de/PlomWiki/plomwiki.php?title=OkCupid )
Bohemian intellectual without qualification. Working with written language a lot (in German though, so don't blame me for my fail Englisch), failing at non-verbal communication. Not very competent in matters of the corporeal world, but I enjoy the sport of climbing.
I'm very enthusiastic about history and the ongoing long-term developments of human culture/civilization. I'm into futurism, speculating seriously and not-so-seriously about space colonization, trans- and post-humanism, technological singularities and all that stuff.
I'm enthusiastic, too, about cinema, though mainly its history, not so much seeing the newest movies. (I'm too lazy to regularly go to the multiplex. Especially if I'm not paid for it; I used to work as a film critic occasionally and spent some semesters in Film Studies.)
I try to curb my excessive use of exclamation marks.
What I’m doing with my life
Writing, talking, coding my brain. I've just written a book about the happy death of privacy in the digital age, and what could be good about it.
If you care, you can read more about my current activities on my website: http://www.plomlompom.de/ (so far, in German only)
I’m really good at
Logically arguing what many people would consider far-out or perverse positions.
The first things people usually notice about me
How should I know an answer to that question? Do I look as if I could read other persons' minds? (Maybe I do look like that. Then that could be the first thing people might notice about me. But I'm quite sure I don't, since I rarely have any idea about how to interpret human beings if they are not explicitely verbal about what goes on in their mind, and I act appropriately clueless around people.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
books: Red Mars/Green Mars/Blue Mars, Max Goldt, The Road to Reality (though I'll never finish it), H.P. Lovecraft, The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, Joachim Fernau, The Baroque Trilogy, Jorge Luis Borges. Trying to get into Michel Foucault right now.
movies: Les enfants terribles, Speed Racer, Prospero's Books, Bad Boys II, Sayat Nova: the Color of Pomegranates, Zoolander, The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky, not Riefenstahl), Year One, Histoire(s) du cinema. Dreyer, Eisenstein, Fassbinder, Resnais.
shows: Babylon 5, M*A*S*H, Deadwood, Married ... with Children, Rome, Family Guy, The Prisoner.
music: Michael Nyman, Björk, Foyer des Arts, Johnny Cash, Die Kassierer, Philip Glass, Leonard Cohen.
food: Döner Kebap, Chicken Curry, KFC.
The six things I could never do without
Speech, intelligence, confusion, enthusiasm, novelty, curiosity.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to move forward in my current projects. How to not fuck up too much. Worst-case scenarios (as a Stoic exercise).
On a typical Friday night I am
At home, working on some project, and relaxing from social activities that took place during the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I tell everyone that I don't dance, but when no one is watching, I can actually move my body parts to Michael Nyman music.

You should message me if
